Bicycles in China are everywhere. In China transportation is extremely important and went through various cycles. In earlier times the Chinese used bicycles but they got replaced by cars.

As pollution increased dramatically new solutions had to be found. Soon new means of transportation were developed that produced no fumes and no noise. Electric bicycles emerged as the winner. In 2009 more e-bikes than cars were bought by Chinese people.

The e-bike revolution is underway. There are much more e-bikes on China's roads now than cars. The government supports this development. China is already leading in this field compared to the rest of the world.

There are so many electric bikes in China that the speed of electric bicycles had to be limited by regulations already to 12 mph. But nonetheless bigger and faster e-bikes are build.

The e-bike boom forced the creation of more bike lanes. Many e-bike companies produce in China. For people, who can't afford cars, the e-bike is a very convenient way to get to work and is safer than a motorcycle.

Electric bikes are just the forerunner of course, electric cars will follow soon. The electric revolution will come but not everybody in the western world has realized this yet.
